As I read, the pages carried me away into the old west. It was descriptive, informative, funny. After I read it I started reading to my little brother, and I"m going to pass it around...

There is an Eye that sees deeper into who we really are than our own. The Bible says, "Man looks at the outward appearance, but God sees the heart." My experience as an actor in Hollywood has shown me that people are willing- even eager- to be fooled by outward appearance. Everyone loves to believe what they see. Few fans consider the heart of their hero. Not so with God. Celebrities are made when people idolize outward appearance. God is not impressed because He sees through the facade and knows the heart of man. When I think of God's penetrating view of my secrets, and how that exposes me to His perfect judgments, I thank God that He is merciful and kind and has chosen to save me and patiently change me. As a son of my Father in Heaven, I can trust Him and His perfect wisdom to chasten, rebuke, correct, guide, and encourage me to become all He created me to be for my good and His glory. In other words, by God's grace, I'm learning to ignore the crowds and live for an audience of One.

Exciting New Novel

Jake's Fortune has been written for the unsaved. It is a fast-moving mystery, set in post gold rush California, with a profoundly powerful gospel message throughout. We've given a number of people a chance to pre-read the book for their reaction. Here are some of their comments:

I began reading it last night and found it extremely difficult to put down. After reading through the first 200 pages, I reluctantly put it down only because it was after 1:00 a.m. and I needed to sleep. First thing I did this morning was grab your book because I HAD to know how it ended!
When I finished it, I did not want it to end. I wanted it to go on and on and on. It is the best book I have ever read in my whole life!!!
What a wonderful work. Your story kept me completely interested in each character. The different story lines happening at the same time really kept my interest and kept the book moving. There were no 'slow' or boring spots in it at all. I laughed out loud a few times. Other times I choked back a few tears. I really loved it!
It was so amazing! You really brought the gospel message into the book, and I bet lots of people will be touched when they read it. I really, really LOVED it!
I sped through the whole book in almost four days. I just couldn't get enough of it.
It was such a joy to read. It was exciting and held my interest from the first chapter to the very end. It's an exciting book that people need to read and pass around to friends.
Maybe this book will become a movie sometime soon. I certainly hope so!

I was recently cleaning out my old barn and found a photo album that showed me what I looked like twenty years ago. Young, strong, no wrinkles, hairless shoulders, and six-pack abs. Then I looked into the mirror and pondered the reality that I am getting older. So, I'm off to the gym today, eating more brussel sprouts, and watching my egg yolks. While I know I can beat the "mid-life crisis" mentality with an enthusiastic thankfulness for all the treasures I have in Christ, to be honest, the thought of my nearing appointment with death sometimes gets me down. I don't want to stop hugging and kissing my children, loving my wife, eating good food, breathing the ocean air, and preaching the gospel. I love it all. But the lesson of the photo album is teaching me not to hold onto this world. God is King and He has a plan that is perfect. If to live is "Christ" and if dying is truly gain, than the best day of my life will be the day of my heart attack and every wrinkle is a reminder that my Redeemer's face is almost in view! Oh Lord, help me to keep this perspective and teach it to my precious children as we move through the pages of the calendar in 2010.

Lyrics like these don't show up every Sunday in our contemporary Christian worship songs. Why? Because they make people feel bad. "Me... vile, unclean and wretched? (gasp!) But that hurts my self-esteem and makes me feel, well... not good. and God doesn't want that for me." And so we sing, week after week, songs that fail to truly change us. The gospel is the power of God to save and to change. And the heart of the gospel is the truth that "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) The higher view you have of yourself, the less you see your true state before God and the less you will appreciate the cross. The lower you get before Almighty God, the clearer you see, and the better view you have of the cross, it's beauty, and the depth of God's love for you. There is a new worship album out that I was asked to be a part of that captures the essence of these powerful lyrics by combining 14th century puritan hymns with puritan prayers such as these. We are going to keep you informed as to what’s going on behind the scenes, at Living Waters, with a short weekly video-clip. Here’s the first...

Exciting Idea

We are creating a site that will have the artwork for million dollar bills for 44 countries. Each bill will resemble their own country's currency, have a caricature of their top sporting hero, with the gospel in their own language on the back. These will be free down-loadable graphics, for Christians in each respective country to have printed in their own country. This will avoid shipping and other costs. The slow process is the creation of the graphics of each bill. We need more voluntary (and talented) graphic artists who can help us. If you can, please contact us at volunteer@livingwaters.com.

We are still needing the gospel message translated for the below countries. If you are fluent in any of them, please carefully translate the below English, and send it to us (volunteer@livingwaters.com ). Make sure you state what language you send us. Thank you.

The million-dollar question: Will you go to Heaven when you die? Here's a quick test. Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God's name in vain? Jesus said, "Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done those things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in Hell. God, who the Bible says is "rich in mercy," sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross for guilty sinners. We broke God's Law, but Jesus paid our fine. That means He can legally dismiss our case. He can commute our death sentence: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Then He rose from the dead and defeated death. Please, repent (turn from sin) today and God will grant everlasting life to all, who trust in Jesus, then read your Bible daily and obey it. www.livingwaters.com

How good it is to understand simple truths from God's Word without a preacher trying to impress his audience with his long-winded, big-worded sentences. My favorite sermons are not difficult to understand. They are clear, simple, and hit the bulls-eye in content. We should have the same mindset when we speak to others about the things of God.

2009 - An Exciting Year
for Living Waters

God has opened the doors for us to reach literally millions through the avenues of television, the School of Biblical Evangelism, the Ambassador Alliance, as well as our Transformed and Deeper conferences. And the Origin into Schools project and the growth of our Spanish language outreach were huge milestones this year.

Through the faithful support of our many partners, all these outreach efforts grew in 2009. If it is God's will, we will see the support needed to expand these outreach efforts even further to reach more people with the gospel in 2010. As you may know, we have taken a dramatic step of faith involving the Ambassadors' Academy for 2010. We were aware of the financial challenges facing so many who would like to attend an Academy, so we have cut the registration fee in half to just $300. In order to make such a dramatic reduction in the participants' registration fee, Living Waters will underwrite the Ambassadors' Academy from general funds, an estimated $90,000. We believe the Lord will bless this decision by blessing the lives of many people who otherwise might not be able to attend the Ambassadors' Academy.

Additionally, we are committed to expanding the Origin into Schools project in 2010, not only domestically, but internationally as well. Last month, over 1,200 people came together at more than 100 universities and colleges to give away 170,000 free copies of "Origin of the Species" with the special 50-page introduction. We would like to exceed those numbers with additional Origin into Schools projects in 2010.

The simple truth is Living Waters exists through the prayers of God's people and the financial gifts of our faithful supporters who share our zeal for the lost, and make it possible for us to fulfill our ministry's mission. Never Be Discouraged

I received a very encouraging email recently. It was from someone who heckled me daily for 2-3 years, as I preached in New Zealand back in the mid 1980's:

"You always appeared to me to have a relationship with God that was the same as having a friendship with someone flesh and blood? Any time I have tried to talk to God, it always feels a bit artificial and I am a bit jealous of my Christian friends who seem to be able to hold a real conversation and hear the answers! I kind of 'get it' on an intellectual level but can't seem to let go enough to let God in? Regards, J. M."

I told him to go to www.livingwaters.com and to listen to "Hell's Best Kept Secret" and "True and False Conversion." Please keep him in your prayers.

This was 30 years ago! It reminded me that God is faithful to watch over His Word--which cannot return void. So never be discouraged as you reach out to the lost in this coming new year. Keep sowing in tears with the confident assurance that someday someone will reap in joy.

The Mission Ball

The Mission Ball is simply a soccer ball covered with Biblical text. It includes a gospel message that beautifully incorporates the use of the Law to bring the knowledge of sin, as well as other selected Scripture. (You can read the whole text here.) The concept is an effort to increase the evangelistic effectiveness of mission trips that aim to spread the gospel through soccer. If you have such a group going out from your church, perhaps you could donate a couple of these soccer balls to them. Currently, The Mission Ball is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Creole. The Mission Ball is a ministry of Frontline International which is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization based in South Dakota.

Thoughtfulness does not merely keep one from doing thoughtless things; it also leads to continued acts of kindness and good will. It ever watches for opportunities to give pleasure and happiness. It does not wait to be asked for sympathy or help--but has eyes of its own, and sees every need, and supplies it unsolicited. The World Cup

Soccer is the world's most popular sport, consequently, the World Cup will draw millions from around the world to South Africa, in June of next year. We are producing the Italian Million euro that will look like real Italian money, with the best Italian soccer player on the bill (caricatured), with the gospel on the back in Italian. We are doing the same in English, German, French and Argentinean. Each country will have the million looking like their own currency, with their soccer hero in caricature, and the gospel in their own language. In ancient days, slaves were bought and sold in the marketplace. A slave had no rights. He or she was auctioned, purchased, and owned by the highest bidder. We, in our unregenerate state, were slaves to sin, captive to the cravings of our flesh, rebels, and deserving of death. God in His kindness, saw our pitiful condition, had mercy on us, bought us with His own precious blood, and adopted us into His own family. "... knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct... but with the precious blood of Christ..." (1 Peter 1:18-19) When I think of the cross, the love demonstrated to me, a sinner, I am overwhelmed at the kindness of God and am renewed in my desire to live wholly for Him.
